ABOUT SHADES OF MURDER AND ITS CREATOR

What is Shades of Murder?
How do you select cases?

Shades of Murder is a criminology-focused true crime podcast dedicated to in-depth research and deep, thoughtful analysis of the world's most chilling and disturbing cases. Hosted by Alita Cauldwell, each bi-monthly episode meticulously dissects the complex motives, pathology, and sociological context surrounding the crime. It explores cases of murder that span history and geography, highlighting the intersection of justice, culture, and human behavior.

What is the inspiration behind the podcast?

In part due to my passion for the true crime genre, I earned a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice because I was inspired to be part of the process in some way. Along with my passion for writing and research, I aim to provide true crime listeners with a podcast that delves beyond the story and offers a unique approach.

It matters to me to use my voice and education to help share knowledge and raise awareness of the multiple issues that impact violent crime. Discussing the case of murder is only the beginning of the story.

Since creating Shades of Murder, I’ve come to realize that I don’t thoroughly know the layers of any case unless I have conducted my own research. Multiple elements comprise the crime, the investigation, the offender, the victim, and the impact on society. Each case I work on is an unexpected and fulfilling experience because there is always something I learn that surprises me, challenges my perception, and reinforces the significance of the show.
